Nourish Birth Collective

Do you remember when I said that there are so many things happening in Fresh Love world that it’s hard to know where to start? Well this is one of those exciting things I’ve been so looking forward to sharing with you.

About a year and a half ago, my dear friend Lisa (who is a doula and lactation counselor) and I started coming up with the vision and plan to form a birth collective in Sioux Falls. We weren’t sure about all the details, but definitely agreed on key points and wanted to be a ‘One Stop Shop’ where families can find resources to successfully navigate the sometimes confusing road through pregnancy and birth and into motherhood.

After we talked about some key points, we decided to add Alicia (who is a nurse and lactation consultant) and Sandra (who is a prenatal/new mama/fertility yoga instructor and mama wellness coach) to the mix and formed the Board of Directors for Nourish Birth Collective. I’m so excited to say that we are almost ready to launch our website and truly have become our vision of a resource in Sioux Falls and the surrounding areas.

We have big dreams and hope one day to own a building where we can have childbirth classes, yoga, photography, doula consults, lactation appointments, and someday a stand alone birth center.

BIG things are happening in Sioux Falls, and we are SO excited to see this dream turning into a reality. Stay tuned for more exciting announcements shortly!

Chelsey, Owen and Baby S

Once in a while you find a friend who just clicks. Chelsey is one of those friends. She’s fun and witty and sassy, and I really dig her. Tonight I was lucky enough to snap a few shots of Chelsey, her adorable 3 year old, Owen, and the baby on the way. All babies are precious, but this one is an extra little ray of hope because he or she is a rainbow baby. I am looking forward to photographing this baby’s birth in February!!  Enjoy!

August Breastfeeding Mini Sessions

Tonight we got to work with three mommas and four littles in our effort to normalize breastfeeding. We were so thrilled that the sun peeked through the clouds and the bugs stayed away for the majority of these sessions. Since we’ve had so much fun in our July and August mini sessions, we are planning one last event for the end of September/beginning of October so keep your eyes peeled if you’re interested in normalizing breastfeeding and capturing the beauty of the mother child connection.

Breastfeeding Mini Sessions

Fresh Love is passionate about breastfeeding and helping to normalize breastfeeding. Breastfeeding from newborn until the nursing relationship is no longer mutually beneficial. In July we hosted a breastfeeding mini session and got to photograph some local mama’s and their nurslings.

Today we have our 2nd breastfeeding mini session of the summer scheduled. We are hoping to get in at least ONE more fall session before we’re done for the year. Visit our Facebook page for more details.

There are so many things happening in Fresh Love world that it’s hard to know where to start. First I will make this a short post letting you all know that after a year of attending births as a doula I obtained my DONA Certification and now am an official certified birth doula. What does this mean to you? I am have been formally trained and gotten the seal of approval from one of the world’s most revered doula certifying bodies. I have the skill and understanding to be even more helpful at the birth of your child and can’t wait to work with you.

Since my last post some of our images have been shared through and Buzzfeed. I am honored and excited to see where the next year brings us!
