  • Thank you for visiting Fresh Love Birth Photography!

I'm so excited that you have found my birth photography blog. This is a new and exciting venture for me and I am looking forward to working with you!

Birth photography is a once in a lifetime experience that is valued as much as wedding photography. You only have one opportunity to document the journey leading up to your child's birth, this is it.

I have two sons, both born quickly, naturally and prematurely. With my first son, I don't have any photographs documenting his journey into the world, and because he was whisked away to the NICU so quickly, I don't have any photographs from his first moments of life. This is something I have regretted deeply. When I found out I was pregnant again, hiring a birth photographer was one of the first things I did. I realized how important it was to me to have those intimate moments documented both for sharing with family and friends, as well as looking back on and processing exactly what happened.

When my second child was also born early, it was really difficult for me to accept. Having his birth documented made it much easier. I was able to look back on the images and really know that even though I was emotionally strained, I was still strong for him. The photographs from my second child's birth are one of my most treasured possessions and I guarantee you will feel the same way about your birth photographs.

I would love to meet you and chat about what you're looking for in a birth photographer as well talk about how I fit into your birth team. Please feel free to contact me today for more information. I am so excited to work with you during this amazing time!

DONA Training and Doula Certification

I am so excited to announce I’ve taken this birth calling a step further and finished my DONA training to become a certified birth doula. What does this mean to you? It means that I will now be attending births not only behind the camera, but without a camera all together as well! Stepping into this doula role is something I’ve considered for quite a long while, and finally decided to make it happen.

If you aren’t familiar with what a doula does, I recommend doing a little research and chatting with friends who have hired one. My role as a doula is to support the laboring couple both emotionally and physically. A doula has experience and knowledge of what natural birth looks like. A doula can support you through massage, rebozo work, soothing words, running a bath, getting you food and drinks in labor, as well as helping your partner to know how to support you better.

A doula never will come between your partner and you. She is a peaceful, soothing female presence in the birthing room with you constantly. She won’t come and go, but is hired to stay with you and help you with this journey to motherhood.

I am currently taking clients and would love to talk with you on how I would fit into your birth team both as a photographer AND doula, or as either individually.

Welcome Earthside Kennerly

It’s time for me to catch up on my blogging. Can you believe this little sweetie turned one in May? I can’t. I honestly can’t believe an entire year has passed so quickly. Kennerly entered the world on a peaceful May morning, surrounded by loving family. Her mama wept when she first saw this perfect baby. I also found myself teary. Birth has that effect on me. Thank you for inviting me to share in your special day, Mollie. Your daughter’s one and only BIRTHday.

The Birth of Broderick :: Sioux Falls Birth Photography

Broderick was welcomed into the world through the first water birth I’ve ever witnessed. I have been in love with water birth since before I was pregnant with my first child, but having preemie babies myself, I have never been able to have this type of birthing experience. I am still hoping and praying that someday I will be able to have the sweet water birth I’ve envisioned. Jessica and Gavin were so amazing to each other through this beautiful birth. He wanted to help and she found strength in his touch. When she was getting to the hardest moments, transition, she would look in his eyes and get the strength to go on. It was truly a beautiful birth to witness. Please enjoy these pictures documenting the birth of sweet Brody.

If you would like to see more, visit the custom slideshow here. This was the first birth that I tried to incorporate video. Enjoy!

Welcome Finley James :: Sioux Falls Birth Photographer

Finn was welcomed into the world peacefully on May 2nd, 2012 by his parents Mandy and Corey. Finn surprised all of us when he came out weighing an impressive 11 pounds 4 ounces. Witnessing and photographing this birth inspired me in so many ways including increasing my faith in the human body. Mandy was an absolute rock star the entire birth. She is truly an inspiration for natural birthing mamas across the world. While Finn was entering the world, he did get a little stuck with shoulder dysplasia and the Gaskin Maneuver had to be used. Luckily, we have such wonderful maneuvers to get those stuck babies out in time. Here is a link to their slideshow, and below you will find some of my favorite images from his birth. Enjoy!
